How to Care for Your Egyptian Cotton Bedding (So It Lasts for Years)

Good bedding is an investment, and a little care goes a long way toward keeping it soft, bright, and comfortable for years. Egyptian cotton is naturally durable, but like any quality fabric, it responds best to gentle, consistent care.

Washing

  • Wash in cold or lukewarm water, and always wash with similar colours to prevent any dye transfer.
  • Avoid overloading the washing machine — sheets need room to move freely to wash and rinse properly.
  • Skip the bleach. It weakens cotton fibres over time and can dull the colour.
  • Use a mild detergent rather than a heavy-duty one, especially for coloured or patterned sets.

Drying

Tumble dry on low heat, or better yet, line dry when possible. High heat is one of the fastest ways to wear down cotton fibres and cause shrinkage over repeated washes.

Ironing

If you like a crisp, hotel-style finish, iron on a low setting while the sheet is still slightly damp. This isn’t essential — many people prefer the relaxed, lived-in look of unironed cotton — but it is a nice option if you want that extra polish.

Storage

Store your sheets somewhere cool and dry, ideally folded rather than tightly rolled, to avoid permanent creasing. If you have a matching set, storing the pillowcases inside the folded bedsheet keeps everything together and easy to find.

First Wash Tip

We always recommend washing new bedsheets once before first use. Not only does this remove any packaging residue, it also helps the fabric relax and become even softer against your skin.

With the right care, a good set of Egyptian cotton sheets can stay soft and vibrant for years. Explore our full range of bedding and home essentials to find your next favourite set.
